Starting from the 1976 season, Porsche offered its sports customers a new GT for Group 4, which replaced the 911 Carrera RSR 3.0. This was the 934 RSR Turbo, based on the 911 Turbo road released in 1975. The 934 used a turbocharged 3-liter engine that gave about 485 horsepower. The 934 was never be officially campaigned by Works, but was left completely in the hands of the privateers, which lead it to numerous victories in Europe and the United States (in the Trans-Am and IMSA series). Some exemplars, modified with different engines and reworked bodyworks were entered in Group 5.
Very well prepared, this 934 was entered in the 1981 24 Hours of Le Mans by Thierry Perrier and driven by Perrier himself, Valentin Bertapelle and Bernard Salam. The car ranked 17th overall, winning the GT category, covering a total of 275 laps.
