Porsche's big news in 2017 competition was the new 911 RSR for the WEC and other top endurance championships. Thanks to a regulation that was not exactly clear, the engine could be changed in position, and was installed between the passenger compartment and the rear axle, as had happened in the 911 GT1. Although very different from the road version, the RSR retained its GT homologation. The 4-liter 6-cylinder engine developed around 510 horsepower. The pass was extended to 2,516 meters. The RSR was initially reserved for the factory team, while private customers initially had to make do with the 911 RSR model 2016 before being able to purchase the 911 RSR model 2017 from 2018.
